1 Cup Heera Yellow Split Peas, 2 1/2 cups Water, 1 tsp Salt, 1 pinch Turmeric Powder, 1 1/2 tsp Cumin Powder, 2 1/2 tbsp Lemon Juice, 1 1/4 tsp Coriander Powder, 1/4 tsp Red Chilli Powder, 1 pinch Garlic Powder, 1 tsp Sugar, 1/4 cup Pure Butter Ghee, 1 tsp Cumin Seeds, 2 Red Chillies, 3/4 tsp Grated Ginger, 2-3 Bay Leaf, 2 1/2 tbsp Tomato Paste, 1 pinch Paprika
Wash yellow split peas and soak in water for 20 minutes. Drain, rinse and cover with fresh water and bring to a boil. Add salt and turmeric powder and boil hard for 2 minutes removing and scum that forms in that time. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until soft, about 30 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the cumin powder, lemon juice, coriander powder, red chilli powder, garlic powder and sugar.
Heat pure butter ghee in a large pot and fry the cumin seeds, chillies, ginger and bay leaf for 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Add tomato paste. Add the dall, stirring all the time. Sprinkle with the paprika and mix well.
Cook over low heat for 15 to 20 minutes and serve hot with chapatti or naan bread.
